Conductive Keratoplasty is a type of refractive surgery which does not use laser to correct patients’ vision. Conductive Keratoplasty can usually correct hyperopia and is especially helpful in age related farsightedness. This surgical procedure for corneal reshaping is performed with the help of radio frequency. Radio frequency energy is directly passed into the stroma of the cornea using a Keratoplasty tip. The tip is inserted into the eye to deliver radio waves at different spots on the cornea. The cornea will be steepened and tightened with the help of these radio waves, allowing for a better vision.

Before performing conductive keratoplasty, Dr. William Boothe will do a thorough examination of the patient’s eyes to know whether he/she needs this procedure or would benefit from having a different one. Corneal topography (WaveFront) device will create a detailed map of the cornea. Conductive keratoplasty can be performed very quickly as it takes only a few minutes to treat each eye. In order to perform this procedure, anesthetic eye drops are used to numb the eyes. After the anesthesia, a speculum is used to hold the eye lids apart in order to prevent them from blinking. To ensure preciseness of treatment, the cornea is marked using rinse-away ink to know the right place to apply the radio energy, and then the patient needs to look at a source of light. The radio energy is then delivered using the keratoplasty tip onto the marked spots of the cornea.

The corneal collagen will get heated by the radio energy in a controlled manner which makes it contract and shrink. After the procedure, the patient can leave the center immediately. The patient should use antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and dilute anesthetic eye drops based on the recommendations of Dr. Boothe. Pain and discomfort after surgery is very rare, although if it occurs, Dr. William Boothe may prescribe some anesthetic and topical medications. Most of the patients can go to work on the very next day following the surgical procedure.

Patients have to be cautious while swimming and showering. Avoid rubbing the eye or applying mascara. Majority of the patients experience excellent vision from the very next day itself, whereas others may experience blurry vision that will improve gradually within the next two weeks. Some may experience vision fluctuations for several weeks. Only 1% of post-op eye complications are associated with conductive keratoplasty. Complications like dry eyes are very rare with patients who had undergone conductive keratoplasty. Conductive keratoplasty does not involve any removal of corneal tissue.

To become an ideal candidate of conductive keratoplasty, the prescriptions of the patient should not change for about one year before undergoing conductive keratoplasty. If you are using a pacemaker to regulate your heart beats, you are not the perfect candidate for this surgical procedure. Dr. Boothe will explain in detail the procedure to patients before surgery, and the doctor will decide whether you are an ideal candidate for the procedure.

The marvelous result and the quality treatment I received from Dr. Boothe and his counselors were beyond my expectations. The laser machines are used in different ophthalmology centers but the most important thing, at least that’s how I feel, is to find a professional surgeon because even if a clinic has good equipment, without an experienced doctor the treatment can be useless. For this reason I was looking not only for an ophthalmology clinic with the best technologies but also for a surgeon who performed many different eye surgeries.

Dr. Boothe, I found out, is a surgeon with high level of education and experience in hospitals and in his private clinic, plus he performed more than a hundred thousand Lasik surgeries. It is an impressive number of operations! It also meant to me that he does these surgeries each day and therefore will know what to do if anything unexpected happens.

When I had my first visit to Dr. William Boothe Center I met a few patients who underwent eye treatments and laser surgery at this center. One woman underwent the AcrySof ReStor implantation. She said that before she had cataract surgery in another clinic but after some time her vision started agin to deteriorate and she was disappointed. She found Dr. Boothe and he was able to restore her eyesight with the newest technology, the ReStor IOL procedure. She was very glad and recommended me to see Dr. William Boothe, saying he is the best surgeon in the USA. Such experiences were helpful & important for me and I was glad that I chose that center.

My personal story was very sad. I had cataract in both of my eyes. I needed to replace my natural lens and I hoped that after the eye surgery I will be able to restore my vision. Dr. William Boothe said that it would be possible if a carry out all the necessary steps and follow the post care instructions. On October 1st I was ready for surgery and three days later I underwent my eye surgery. I can say with confidence that there is nothing terrible about it. I listened to Dr. William Boothe recommendations and I trusted him in every step of the way. I guess I felt I can trust Dr. Boothe because he is very reasonable, serious and responsible doctor. He has millions of patients and still manages to maintain his patience. The surgery did not last long and I felt good afterward. Yes, some moments of the surgery were unpleasant but in no step I felt pain. Two days after surgery I came for a follow up and was under the personal supervision of Dr. Boothe. I got more medicine and drops for the eyes. I regained very good vision in the left eye, in a gradual manner, over the next few weeks. Later I did the same procedure on the right eye.

I want to recommend Dr. William Boothe for his great skills and qualities. He managed to ease my fears and the overall service and care by him and his staff will be favorably remembered.

Five years ago I got rid of my glasses but before that I could not image my life without it. I wore glasses since childhood. In preschool I always damaged my glasses. Then in school I felt shy because some my classmates called me names. I wore glasses everywhere and it was very uncomfortable. In the summer I had a lighter skin color around my eyes. When I was 22 years old I had the first unsuccessful experience of wearing contact lenses. Half an hour later after I wore the contacts my eyes began feeling irritated and watery. At university my friend had laser eye surgery. She was glad with the result and told me about her experience. Before I thought that laser surgeries are high-priced procedures but when she told me the cost of her surgery it was completely affordable. She gave me the website of Boothe Eye Laser Center and encouraged me to look for more information about the center. At home I found the contact information and made a call to the center.

Dr. William Boothe came off from the beginning as a professional surgeon and his staff was friendly. At his center I was provided with qualified help and felt sincere support from staff members who spent time with me when I was done with exam procedures, before surgery and in the postoperative period. I asked a million questions about everything and they gave me detailed answers tirelessly. Their tone of voice matched the politeness and respect I expected.

On the day of my eye correction I came to center early and found out that Dr. William Boothe has already performed Lasik on six persons. I was the third on the waiting list and the nurse asked me to wait. When I was called in, I came to a room where the air was crisp and a bit freezing. I wore a white dress and went to the operating room. Before my surgery, the nurse sprayed my face with a solution and put on my face a white breathable serviette with holes for the eyes. Then she dripped my eyes and a few minutes later they were numbed and Dr. Boothe began performing the laser eye surgery. During surgery I saw a green light. When this light changed to red I understood that the laser works but I did not feel hurt. Maybe for a few seconds I experienced a little pressure on each eye but did feel pain. Five minutes later Dr. Boothe said that my surgery ended and the nurses took me for the resting suite. The nurses helped me slowly get up and I rested for a while in the adjoining room.

After surgery I thought how many people are afraid to do laser eye surgery and do not know that this procedure is so advanced and quick. I had an eye exam by Dr. Boothe, and he said that all is OK!

For a few weeks I had to use eyedrops and take some pills. I had a few consultations with Dr. Boothe and sometimes with other nice & sensitive doctors who work for him.

Five years later I’m happy to report that I have not had any problem with my eyesight since surgery and during this time my vision remained stable.

Nearsightedness, or myopia, is the most common eye disorder in the world. In nearsightedness, light rays which pass through the eye do not fall right on the retina, but are focused in front of it. As a result, a nearsighted person can perfectly see close-up objects, but distant objects are blurry to various degrees, says Dr. William Boothe.

Ophthalmologists single out two main causes of nearsightedness. The first cause is excessive eye length (normal eye length varies from 22 to 24 mm). An increase in your eye length by one millimeter worsens vision by approximately one diopter. The second cause is excessively strong refracting power of two elements of the eye – the lens and the retina.

Nearsightedness can be hereditary and/or acquired. There is a great likelihood that children of nearsighted parents will also develop myopia. According to Dr. William Boothe, long-term activities that require looking at objects at a short distance or in badly illuminated rooms, as well as an existence of various diseases are the main reasons in the development of acquired nearsightedness.

According to the rate of progression, there are two distinct types of myopia: stationary and progressive. Nearsightedness progression in children and adolescents is often connected with eye growth.

Unfortunately, myopia cannot be classed as inoffensive eye defect that can be easily be corrected with the help of eyeglasses or contact lenses and require no further exams. Because of the myopic eye structure, an increase in eye length leads to stretching of inner eye membranes and has a negative impact on the retina. Thus, the progression of nearsightedness may lead to dystrophic changes in the fundus of the eye, as well as cause in extreme cases retinal holes and retinal detachment. Nearsighted people are recommended by Dr. Boothe to have annual and thorough eye examinations in order to inspect the eye and avoid severe eye diseases.

People with high levels of myopia have limitations on lifting heavy weights. This is due to the fact that such people may suffer from retinal detachment after very demanding physical activities.

If you have noticed changes in your vision or if it has become fuzzy lately, or if you notice that your child strains his/her eyes in order to see objects at a distance or bends over a piece of paper & looks closely while writing or drawing, it is necessary to see your ophthalmologist for a thorough diagnostics of the inner structures of the eye and get a prescription for vision correction and other treatments. When the human eye stops growing (18 to 20 years of age), a stable myopia can be corrected with various laser vision correction procedures including Lasik, IntraLasik, PRK, or with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL), explains Dr. Boothe of Boothe Eyecare.

Your vision can be improved without the use of spectacles or contact lens, but it depends up on your willpower and discipline to follow the following instructions. It is not difficult to achieve good vision without undergoing surgery or using lenses of any kind. Eye exercises really improve your vision and they are considered the safest method to improve the vision of your eyes. You can improve the vision naturally without taking medications, just by doing eye exercises. Glasses correct the sight only temporarily. You have to change the power of these artificial lenses every now and then to get a better vision as you age.

You have to give great importance to your eyes and vision because they are an irreplaceable part of the body that we use almost every moment when we are awake. You have to do regular checkups and vision exercises in order to make your eyes healthy and strong. Eye exercises can cure several problems such as wall-eye, lazy eye, cross eye and strabismus. By doing eye exercises, the muscles of the eyes will get strengthened and more efficient, resulting in a better eyesight. Daily exercises can improve the movement of the eyes, their muscle strength, their agility and the flexibility of your eyes.

Use of computer is the major cause of eye damage in today’s technological world. Excessive reading is also considered as the leading cause of eyesight. Both of these activities are near-point eye activities. Damage to the eyes caused by prolonged use of computer is known as the computer vision syndrome. The symptoms of computer vision syndrome are headaches, red eyes, dry eyes, occasional near and distant blurred vision, headaches and focus changes. You can adjust the computer monitor to be further away from your eyes and select larger letters to read the content that appears on the computer screen. Looking farther from the monitor every now and then is a good idea to reduce eye strain caused by computer usage. Give rest to the eyes – proper sleep is a must while doing computer related jobs.

It is always better to wear a protective shield to protect your eyes while doing dangerous tasks such as construction work, mechanic job etc that may cause eye injuries. Some of the common materials that cause eye injuries are wood, drywall, dust and metal. Life-long problems in vision are the result of these kinds of eye injuries. Wear goggles, helmets, safety glasses and face shields while doing dangerous tasks.

Smoking is also a major cause of several eye problems such as cataracts, glaucoma, graves’ ophthalmopathy, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration. Dr. Boothe advice: quit your smoking habit to save your vision. Wearing sunglasses can also prevent your eyes from exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun and thereby reduces the occurrence of macular degeneration, skin cancer of the eyelids or cataracts. While using eye makeup you have to take necessary precautions such as wash the hands before applying the makeup, replace eye cosmetics every 6 months, purchase fresh eye cosmetics after an eye infection and never apply eye makeup while traveling in a vehicle. Dr. William Boothe is an expert ophthalmologist who can help you in improving your vision by suggesting proper eye exercises and precautions to avoid eye injuries.

Factors That Affect Your Vision After Lasik:

    * Condition and optical properties of the cornea
* Refractive errors before surgery (nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism)
* Level of correction required for the elimination of the refractive errors
* Quantity and quality of your tears
* Your age

According to Dr. Boothe, a satisfaction with your surgery results depends mostly on setting your expectations before Lasik. If your result match or surpass them, there are no misunderstandings. But if you expected for an unrealistic outcome, you may feel disappointed after surgery.

You should remember that Lasik procedure is intended to help patients get rid of eye glasses or contact lenses. The surgery helps the vast majority of patients to see better, but a small number of people may notice that their vision has become not as good as it was when they had been wearing eyeglasses.

Intacs for Ceratoconic Patients.

For Dr. William Boothe, the most important step before performing Lasik or Epi-Lasik is thorough tests of the cornea’s topography. Often, patients with ceratoconic eye problems are not suitable candidates for Lasik or Epi-Lasik procedures. In some cases Dr. Boothe considers using an Intacs corneal implant (made by Addition Technology, which is based in Des Plaines, Ill.).

Boothe Eyecare and their qualified staff successfully used Intacs to increase eyesight acuity and decrease major deviations, astigmatism and cornea steepness. Some patients who underwent the implant operation reported suffering mild pain and/or postoperative side effects such as temporary eye irritation and itching. Such uncomfortable side effects continue for no more than three weeks after the implantation.
Sometime patients cannot resist rubbing their eyes due to the itchy feeling and it may lead to the displacement of the Intact implant. In these cases, the postoperative period might become longer than usual. Dr. Boothe may choose to prescribe to patients with the potential to such postoperative side effects NSAIDs treatment for 4 days following the Intacs procedure. Due to the NSAIDs, the uncomfortable feeling and rubbing in the eyes are lessened. If some patients are allergic to this treatment Dr. Boothe can use olopatadine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution to lessen rubbing of the eyes.

When I searched the internet I found the website, address and phone number of Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center and I was interested, especially in the IntraLasik option. I decided to go to a free consultation with Dr. Boothe and made an appointment easily over the phone.

I agreed to do the eye correction surgery a few days after my consult. The technology and the staff were the deciding factors. At Boothe’s Center I liked the attention from all personnel. Especially I want to convey my great thank you to Dr. Boothe himself. I liked his combination of such quality professionalism with humane approach. Many thanks!

Without any doubt you should do your laser eye surgery at Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center. Why am I so confident? Because I had my own experience and regained my vision after Lasik. My surgery was done by a professional ophthalmologist – Dr. Boothe – and the result was great. Now I have 20/20 vision and 2 years after surgery my eyesight has not deteriorated. It is wonderful to be able to see everything after 6.5 vision. Dr. Boothe’s assistant spent a lot of time to test my eyes in the different exam rooms. After this Dr. Boothe thoroughly explained to me the eye problems I’m having and recommended the best treatment for these conditions (astigmatism and myopia). I did feel totally comfortable and his assistants made me feel at ease and calm.

The surgery was performed professionally. I felt no discomfort or pain and during the procedure. Everything went well. I would never trust my eyes to any other surgeon. I am sure that it is not wise to experiment with unknown ophthalmology centers. I am convinced that Dr. Boothe is a highly skilled surgeon and his staff is good highly trained.

Lasik was not the cheapest procedure for me but I got what I paid for. I hope that many of Dr. Boothe’s patients agree with me.

Although many people are currently thinking about having Lasik eye surgery done, they are a bit vacillated to ask the questions that they have. People fear the unknown, because they just do not know all the details of the Lasik surgery. Dr. William Boothe of Boothe Laser Center will shed a bit of light on some of the most common fears related to Lasik, and will also discuss how it is experienced by the vast majority of patients that undertake the procedure.

The fear of pain during and right after the procedure is very common among most people that consider Lasik. Before the Lasik procedure starts, your surgeon puts anesthetic drops into the eyes. You may also receive a mild sedative to help you relax and to lessen any anxiety. Though a slight pressure to the eye may be felt during the surgery, the process itself is virtually painless.

The surgeon employs a special excimer laser to help remodel the cornea during the Lasik procedure. Dr. Boothe says that many people are afraid of the laser beam being directed into the eye, or that they might accidentally look away or blink while the procedure is on, and thus develop a serious complication with their eyes. But the fact is that the laser itself lasts only about ten to fifteen seconds for an eye, and the new Lasik laser devices he uses have a high speed eye tracker device to compensate for eye movements.

The fear of going blind after Lasik procedure is also one of the biggest fears that people have. According to the FDA studies and other clinical projects covering over one thousand of patients, there are no reported cases where somebody lost his/her sight because of the procedure. If you choose an experienced surgeon, your chances of risks or complications are very low. An eye surgeon like Dr. William Boothe with over a hundred thousand procedures under his belt will be able to deal with any unpredictable situations as they happen and correct them in real time.

Serious complications that may occur after Lasik are very rare and are currently in less than one percent of the patient population. In fact, the risk of permanent complications, even not serious ones, is less than three percent. It is extremely rare for a patient to have worse eyesight after a Lasik surgery.
